Can’t Make It to the Alamodome? Here’s a List of Pop-Up Covid Vaccination Clinics Open Through Dec. 4

November 30, 2021 - San Antonio

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • On Friday, the World Health Organization designated Omicron, the new, heavily mutated Covid-19 offshoot, a “variant of concern”
  • The Alamodome Covid vaccination site will be closed Dec. 3 due to the UTSA game

If you’re trying to figure out how to celebrate the holidays in a way that doesn’t potentially contribute to another Covid surge, like the one we had last winter, you’re not alone. On Friday, the World Health Organization designated Omicron, the new, heavily mutated Covid-19 offshoot, a “variant of concern.” On Monday, President Joe Biden called the latest coronavirus strain a “cause for concern,” warning Americans not to panic.

Indeed, public health is still on the minds of many in our region.

Locally, City and County officials are maintaining the day-to-day fight against Covid-19. At 3 p.m. on Tuesday, the City of San Antonio and Bexar County officials will share coronavirus holiday celebration guidance and recommendations from City Hall. They are also scheduled to provide an update on the pandemic and ongoing response efforts in Bexar County.

The bottom line: Metro Health continues to advise individuals to get vaccinated to protect themselves, family and friends from Covid while celebrating the holiday season with others.

“Please remember to stay vigilant as you prepare to celebrate the holidays with friends and loved ones,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg in a press release. “This means getting vaccinated if you haven’t already and taking precautions to minimize your risk of Covid infection, such as wearing a mask regardless of vaccination status if you plan to attend large gatherings.”

Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff believes the local community has come a long way in terms of mitigating the spread of Covid since November 2020.

“Currently, our positivity rate and hospitalizations are low, and we certainly don’t want to have a major setback as we did last winter,” he said in an emailed statement. “Please get vaccinated to protect you and others around you.”

To find a vaccine or testing location, visit the City’s Covid-19 website or call 311 and select option 8. Residents can also visit the ongoing Alamodome drive-thru mass vaccination clinic for San Antonio and Bexar County. The site is located at 100 Montana St in Lot B and is open from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. Appointments are no longer required at this site. Please note: The Alamodome vaccination site will be closed on Friday, Dec. 3 due to the UTSA game.

Pop-up vaccination clinics have been an effective way to reach communities unable to get downtown easily during the site’s hours of operation.

Conveniently, all Metro Health pop-up clinics, except the Alamodome, are offering the Flu vaccine at no cost. The Flu vaccine is available to anyone six months and older.

Additionally, all clinics listed below now offer the Pfizer Covid vaccine for children ages 5 and older as well as booster shots for all eligible adults 18 years and older.

Metro Health strongly encourages residents to use face masks at vaccination events.

It’s no secret that Covid-19 vaccine has been a controversial issue to some residents. As an incentive, Metro Health currently offers $100 H-E-B gift cards to participants who complete their initial vaccine series of Pfizer, Moderna, or the single-dose J&J at Metro Health-sponsored pop-up clinics and at the Alamodome while supplies last. Details about gift cards and eligibility can be found here
